Welcome, traveller.

I go by many names...

Some call me Mmmmystery Man...others know me as the Shadow Dweller. Some call me Secret Peter, where is he hiding, in a tree in a bush in a cupboard? No, he is inside yourself. Some call me chilli chicken ramen... others know me as clive. I am sometimes called Peppercorn, by the dutch. Some know me as Cilit Bang...

.

But you may know me simply as Laura

Do you have any tips you could give us for dressing/customizing clothes like a plauge rat?

Of course :)
The two main techniques I used to get a cool asylum stage costume feel were tea-staining, and diamantes/crystals.
Tea staining is really easy. All you need to do is boil some water, put 5 or 6 black tea bags in and let them steep. Then you can soak your garment/lace/fabric etc in it, wring out and allow to dry! Easy.
The other thing I used HEAPS is crystals. You can buy diamantes in bulk from eBay and etsy. You can either use hotfix, which have a special glue on the back which melts into the fabric when heated, or special glue such a Gem Tac, to stick on the diamantes. I literally stuck them on EVERYTHING. It’s an addiction!

Just look to EA and the crumpet’s costumes for inspiration, that’s what I did.

Oh and one final tip, AVOID BLACK!!! EA has always said in interviews that she avoids using any black in her stage costumes to prove goth doesn’t have to be dark. So if you really wanna look like you escaped from the asylum stage, try using reds, pinks and creams instead of your trusty black.

Hope this helps you!

I guess I should get around to posting what has been consuming my life!

These are the three costumes I made for the Emilie Autumn Australian tour. I went to all three shows in all three cities, and made a different costume for each!

The top costume was for Sydney, 30/3/13, and was inspired by the Fight Like a Girl armoured costumes.

The second costume was for Brisbane, 28/3/13, and was inspired by the infamous glittertits, and the glittery diamante costume of EA’s from around 2010, including the gold top hat. (Bonus Veronica in there >.<)

The last picture is the costume I wore to Melbourne, 29/3/13, and is a portrayal of the character from The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls, The Captain, Jolie Rouge.

What an adventure!

14: Where did most of your money go?

Well, while a substantial amount of money went to rent and groceries and boring things… The largest amount of money went to seeing Noel Fielding numerous times and even flying interstate to see him. And most recently on tickets for three Emilie Autumn gigs.

17: Compared to this time last year, are you: (a) happier or sadder? (b) thinner or fatter? (c) richer or poorer?

(a) Happier!!!

(b) Fatter :(

(c) Poorer… but still happier!

28: What was your favourite film of this year?

I think my favourites lie between Brave, Ruby Sparks and The Devil’s Carnival… although I think these will soon be outdone by The Hobbit and Les Miserables!
